Pursuant to circular no. 01/01/2016, dated 21st January 2016, issued by the Secretary of Ministry of Health regarding duty leave for Nursing officers, Officers of the Professions supplementary to Medicine/Officers of Para Medical Service who are following degrees relevant to their posts at recognized universities by the University Grants Commission, students who are pursuing BSc (Hons) in Nursing programme at KIU will receive 21 days of duty leave.

This comes as a result of requests made by KIU and efforts by Government Nursing Officers’ Association and our special thanks go out to its’ Chairman Mr. Saman Rathnapriya whose extensive involvement made this a reality. KIU together with the Government Nursing Officers’ Association will endeavor to increase the initial number of duty leave for Nursing Students in the near future.

KIU will continue its mission to raise the standards of the nursing profession of Sri Lanka and support its students in their higher studies. Nursing Education in Sri Lanka has been lacking in many ways and BSc (Hons) in Nursing programme at KIU will cater to Nursing professionals who want to expand their knowledge in Nursing and enable them to be world class nursing professionals.
