Together with the Paediatric Nursing Association, the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians recently held the 8th Annual Paediatric Nursing Congress, 5th August 2016, at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo. The event was marked with the participation of the chief guest the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Palitha Mahipala, as the Guest of Honour.
More than 200 nurses from all regions of Sri Lanka took part in this event, which aims to develop the knowledge of Disaster management of children, Emergency paediatric care and new challenges in paediatric nursing. Senior academics in both medical and nursing sectors conducted invaluable sessions throughout the day making the event a huge success.
Behalf of the KIU, academics from the department of nursing and administration got an opportunity to participate in this event and this event confirms the commitment of the nurses to improve the quality of paediatric care and there professional and academic development.
KIU, Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing programme is a degree programme designed fully in alignment of the industry needs and operating under a mission to produce 500 graduate nurses by 2020. Backed by a highly qualified academic panel the programme aims to uplift the standards of nursing within Sri Lanka. The programme allows exemptions to government registered nurses up to two years allowing students to progress towards becoming a Nursing professional rapidly. The programme is recognized by the University Grants commission as well as approved by the Ministry of Higher Education of Sri Lanka.
